Easy Peasy Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest is still a relatively new type of social media, which means there are plenty of ways to market it effectively that haven’t, of yet, been saturated.

Pinterest marketing is super easy and totally free, but don’t be fooled that it requires no time or little effort! Gaining Pinterest followers is as difficult as finding hen’s teeth, and this is where you will need to be concentrating most of your efforts. People will repin and like, but follow is quite another matter!

So, down to business! This simple method should make you around $20 a day, but it is ripe and ready for up scaling and twisting once you get the basics down.

First things first, get a Pinterest account! You will need an invite, but when you sign up it only takes a day or so to come through, in the meantime you can be getting everything else ready to go.

Now you need to set up a free blog with blogger or wordpress, or similar. Take some time making it pretty and feminine looking (most Pinterest users are female, marketing power tools won’t get you very far!). Now go searching for pictures – lots of them! Hunky men, cute puppies, high fashion, inspirational quotes, interior design and anything with babies attracts attention.  Use your imagination, and experiment a little – you will soon find out what attracts attention. Go to the popular pins page and see what is working, heck steal some pins if you have to (sorry did I say that out loud??! Oops).

Tumblr is a great way to generate content to pin on Pinterest. Tumblr has a really good feature where you can reblog other user’s posts. This gives you lots of content just by clicking a few buttons. No Tumblr account? Go get one, it’s free!

When you have your blog looking good and all the pictures categorised you will need to find something to promote. AdSense is perfect if you already have an account – if not then take a look at linkshare.com and find something nice that looks like it will sell (weight loss, relationships, recipes, parenting, jewellery and fashion will convert well).

Ok, by now you should have your Pinterest invitation, so get to work making your boards look as natural as possible. Follow lots of people, repin their stuff, like everything, make comments, etc.

Now pin one of your images! The secret to success with Pinterest marketing is to only pin one image per day, after the first one you will notice any more won’t get any attention, your best hope is that visitors come to your site from your first pin, when they click the image you pinned from your blog, they will be redirected to your blog and hopefully pin your other images of their own accord.

Do not attempt to put affiliate links into your pins, Pinterest are wise to this and will strip the links, and you could find yourself banned for spam.

So you’ve got a visitor from Pinterest to your blog, they’ve looked at your pictures and hopefully pinned a couple (make sure you have a pin button! get it from http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/) and now what? There’s nothing for them to read or anything else to do apart from click your ads! Text based ads work the best because they stand out against all the images, and people browsing will be looking for something to click once they’ve had their fill of cute pictures!

You will have to work really hard for a couple of hours a day to get followers: Comment, like, repin, comment some more, then repeat. The only way to get more followers is to post more pins. Create several boards with different topics and post interesting content there. And you will get followers, eventually!

Good Luck!

If you have a self hosted wordpress blog checkout the new Pinterest theme hot off the press from Daniel Tan, it’s called Pinsomo and looks pretty awesome! I’ll be trying this out on one of my sites and will update with the results asap!

  1. Thanks for your article! I have used pinterest on my website and the result was awesome, it jumped from page #121 to #4 in around 2 weeks time.

The key is we must got our website pinned and repinned by many people, which is the hardest part. Most of pinterest users won’t doing repin when they aren’t like what we pinned.

I do simple thing to outsource it on fiverr and got my site pinned by 75 people, I don’t know how can he did it just search by typing pinterest on fiverr and you will find it on the TOP. Many other seller offer pinterest service on fiverr but in my experience they can’t make my website increase in SEO. I don’t know why.

As I know currently pinterest is best for SEO for 3 reasons:
    1. Once our website pinned it has 3 backlinks counts.
    2. Even not support anchor text (except the url link), it’s still perfect for placing our keywords in description. Google will read it!!
    3. You need to ping the links of your pins to the to get your website increase in SEO.
